COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

|

Two COVID-19 vaccines have been approved. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices ("ACIP") at the Centers for Disease Control (“CDC”) is recommending that both healthcare personnel and residents of long-term care facilities be given priority for the COVID-19 vaccine during the initial phase of the vaccination program (“Phase 1A”).

As with nearly everything about this pandemic, guidance and action plans vary by jurisdiction and are constantly evolving. For the latest information on the COVID-19 vaccine, from the CDC, click here. We will continue to promptly share updates as we prepare for the vaccine rollout, but here is what we know now:

  • The vaccine will likely be available beginning in the coming weeks however, we do not yet have actual arrival dates for each community.
  • The vaccine will come in two doses, separated by 21-28 days.
  • Front line workers will receive vaccinations first. This is part of the Inspired Living strategy to protect our residents by ensuring adequate staffing of communities.
  • Vaccines will be administered by Walgreens or CVS, depending on the community. Each will send representatives to our community to administer both doses of the vaccine to residents and associates.
  • Everyone getting the vaccine will be asked to sign a consent form from Walgreens or CVS. If a resident is unable to sign, the health care power of attorney will be contacted for consent.

Internationally, health care researchers and experts have confirmed that the vaccine is a vital step toward keeping everyone safe from COVID-19.  We are thankful that assisted living communities were made a priority for the rollout of the vaccines. While we cannot require anyone to take the vaccine, we strongly encourage all residents and associates to comply.

If you are considering a move to senior living, now is a great time to do so because, as a resident, you can receive the vaccine before it becomes available to the public. To take advantage of this opportunity, move-in needs to take place before the second clinic date. To find out more, contact a Validus Senior Living community near you.
