What to do in this time of social isolation

As we brace for the spread of COVID-19 it is important we practice social distancing and remain 6 feet apart from our non-family members.  It is also important to limit frequenting of stores and public spaces, and to practice proper hand washing with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.  These practices will limit the spread of the virus and keep many of us safe.  Although this time may bring heightened anxiety about the unknown, we can also count our blessings.

Let’s focus on what we can control.  One thing we are in control of is our day.  Many families are now together all day and night with children being home from school.  It is important to maintain a routine each day.  This will give your day a purpose and give each family member a sense of accomplishment.  Your routine may include when you wake, dine, and sleep.  It is also important to structure activities and learning throughout the day, just as we do with our residents to keep them active and engaged.  Use this time as a gift.  What is one thing you would like to accomplish while at home?  Write it down and do it!

For those of you who miss the interaction with your friends and relatives, try FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom.  These are all great venues to communicate.  If your loved one is on our assisted living, we can help orchestrate this for you.  Just call us and we will be happy to set up a time.

Let’s all work together to keep our loved ones safe.  Let’s follow the guidelines the health department and CDC have put in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.  Let’s also enjoy the time we have been given to make our neighborhoods and communities great places to be.

Stay safe everyone.  I know I am beginning to feel a little stir crazy, but I refer to my list and keep focused on the future.  I am looking forward to seeing you in person soon!
