Heavy rain will impact Cuba today resulting in significant flooding. As Elsa moves near or along the Western Florida Peninsula, a heavy rainfall may result in isolated flooding with considerable flash and urban flooding possible in southwest and western portions of Florida. We understand that these situations are not always predictable, but we are doing our best to prepare for all possibilities. As a reminder, each community has an Emergency Management Plan and maintains fuel, water and nonperishable foods.
In an abundance of caution, we are implementing Disaster Response Team Support Plans at our Superior Residence of Lecanto, FL Community and Superior Residence of Ocala, FL.

Hurricane Elsa is expected to move over western Cuba for the next few hours and reach portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday. A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Fort Meyers area south to Marco Island. A tropical storm watch has been issued for the coastal areas north of Fort Meyers. Flooding and storm surge conditions remain likely along the west coast of Florida before the storm turns inland in a northeast direction. A tropical storm watch continues along the Georgia and Carolina coasts as the storm moves to the northeast Wednesday morning through Thursday.
In advance of the storm, our teams have taken additional steps to ensure the safety of our communities:
- Emergency supplies including food, water, batteries, and lighting are in place.
- Team members have been notified and a call will go out to family members and residents.
- Generators have been serviced and are ready should they be needed.
- Staffing has been secured for all shifts to ensure all needs are met.

Hurricane Elsa is moving quickly west-northwest across the eastern Caribbean Sea as a category 1 hurricane. Impact to the southwest and west coasts of Florida is predicted to be Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning as the storm moves in a north, northeast direction up the Florida West coast. High winds and heavy rain are expected as the remnants of the system move across Florida, into Georgia, along the Carolina coast and northward this week.
Our regional teams are working closely together with our communities to ensure all necessary preparations are in place as the storm progresses.
